ABUELITA® Chocolate was introduced in Mexico in 1939. For a decade, it’s publicity was carried out via a radio show: La Voz del Chocolate Abuelita (The Voice of Abuelita Chocolate). Its package showed a face with European features, but in 1973 the image was replaced by that of Sara García.
Sara García was born in Mexico in 1894. Although she landed her first acting role in 1917, her busiest years as an actress were between 1936 and 1957. In the '40s, she played the role of Abuelita Luisa García in a television drama series. After the '40s, she played many roles in which she was a symbol of love and kindness. Her success was so great that she became known to everyone as "The Abuelita of Mexican cinema."
For generations, ABUELITA® Chocolate has been an essential ingredient in the Mexican kitchen, and now it’s the preferred chocolate of Hispanics in the United States. For Hispanic families, its delicious chocolate flavor is associated with the warmth and comfort of home. Its perfect balance of cocoa, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon are what allow Abuelita to give every steaming cup of hot chocolate its distinctively delicious flavor.
